After spending over seven years in the court system, Roberts Tate successfully obtained a $17.5M settlement with Glynn County returning erroneously calculated tax overpayments to over 13,000 Glynn County homeowners. The class-action lawsuit which started in 2012 involved mistakes made on the part of the Glynn County Tax Commissioner’s office where the incorrect base year was used in calculating the L5 Scarlett Williams exemption. On January 22, 2018, the Georgia Court of Appeals ruled that the county was misapplying the exemption and that taxpayers were due refunds. In addition to the $17.5M settlement, the legal ruling will save Glynn County taxpayers for many years to come.
